Review: Nike+ FuelBand

June 26, 2012 in Accessories, Product

The new Nike+ Fuelband is a great overall product for nearly everyone. This wristband is built with a very sturdy rubberised material. It comes in 3 sizes (small, medium, and large), and each one of them comes with an 8mm, and a 16mm link as well. The box also contains unlocking tool (for the links), a USB cable (for syncing and charging) and a stand for the wristband, though the band itself may be connected to a computer directly. Users are recommended to download the free mobile app for syncing data on-the-go.

The Fuelband itself is extremely useful. People who likes to keep track with their daily activities will find this very handy. The wristband records FuelPoints, calories burned, and steps taken. It also keeps track of time. FuelPoints is basically the daily activity indicator; you get more FuelPoints if you do more exercise, and the number of FuelPoints reset to zero after midnight. The user must set a daily goal for himself/herself. When the user achieves his goal, animations will be shown on the Fuelband, and when the use syncs its data onto the phone or computer, a different animation will appear.

The unique feature of this Fuelband is the level of motivation it gives to the user. I’ve been using this for around 5 weeks already, and everyday, I would still try my best to reach my goal. The amount of information it keeps track is extremely useful. It shows records your best days, weeks, and months, and notifies you whenever you hit a milestone, beating your old record, achieving streaks etc. Overall, Nike has done a great job at putting this together, and also topping other similar products.

The overall quality of the Fuelband is great. Built with a total of 100 LED lights, it is very aesthetically pleasing. And with a fully charged battery, I can work up to 3 days before the next charge. It is only water resistant, though, so I would not take it when I go swimming. However some sports may not work too well with this wristband. Sports like cycling, swimming, weight lifting, and sports where not a lot of arm movement is involved is the the best for the Fuelband. The wristband itself is very easy to use, since there is only one button to press. Setting up the Fuelband itself is very easy, but it does require a computer or a phone to start it. As I mentioned above, it is built extremely solid for a product like this. I play basketball wearing this, and I get hit constantly. I have also dropped it a few times, and no scratches are present. The material is extremely comfortable against the skin, and it’s not irritating at all. The ONLY disadvantage for me was the price. Sold at $149.99, the Fuelband may seem too much for the average user. However, I was extremely satisfied with this product and it is worth every cent.
