Minmalistic Clock Maximizes Gorgeousness
July 6, 2012 in Main Blog, Product, Slideshow
I’ve spent a few weeks with the QLOCKTWO TOUCH, a minimalistic word clock by Biegert & Funk, and I absolutely fell in love with it. Take a look at this beauty and tell me you would not do the same.

The Aesthetics:
There are not enough words in universe to describe the beauty of the QLOCKTWO TOUCH. It is forged from an Aluminum block that is attached to a glass front plate that features a letter matrix. The LEDs illuminate the words on the front plate to indicate the time. The written words can only display the hour and then the minutes in five minute increments. At each corner there is a single dot to represent single minutes in addition to the words the matrix display. So in the picture above, even though the clock reads 8:50, the actual time is 8:54.

Since the QLOCKTWO TOUCH features a monolithic design, the aluminium body is seamless. The three middle buttons are for setting the clock, 1,5, and 60 minute intervals respectively. The top button controls the alarm settings, and the bottom button changes the brightness.
The Functionality:
The QLOCKTWO TOUCH has quite a few features that I felt I should mention. Apart from telling time the QT has a nice progressive alarm, that gets louder to wake you up easily. Snoozing is as simple as a touch and will earn you five extra minutes in bed. The QT also handles brightness very well. The LEDs automatically adjusts the brightness using an ambient light sensor positioned behind the matrix; and for more specific control, you can press the brightness button located in the back, to change between four levels of LED intensity. Setting the QLOCKTWO TOUCH to the lowest level also enables “Night Touch” mode that only illuminates the time when you touch the clock. Besides these normal features, there are also two other special modes, which might be more novelty than of actual use. By holding down the 60 interval key for a prolonged amount of time, you enable reading lamp function.
I do not know who you actually use a clock to read by, but it sure is pretty. The second special feature is seconds mode, which is also fun to watch, but not extremely useful. In seconds mode the seconds are displayed in number form using pieces of the matrix.
If your not a fan of black, though I do not know who wouldn’t be, you can exchange the face plate for one of a different color or language. Each glass face plate is magnetized, so switching them out is a snap. The metal stand is also magnetic so you don’t have to bother dealing with screws or anything.
Whats In The Box:
I must say that I was impressed with the packaging. The box is simple and elegant and laid out in a manner similar to Apple. I almost did not want to take the clock out of the box. Almost.
So here’s what you get:
- QLOCKTWO TOUCH
- USB Charging Adapter
- USB Charging Cable
- Metal Stand Plate
- Cleaning Cloth
- Cheat Sheet
- Instructions
- Adhesive Strip (For wall mounting)
Overall:
Overall I was definitely impressed. Biegert & Funk did an incredible job with the QLOCKTWO TOUCH, which is to be expected with the high caliber of work that they do. This is the perfect clock for any fan of minimalism. It is easy to read, if you can read, and all the settings are super simple. I honestly only found one con, and that was the price. $599 is kind of steep, but for the quality of the product it is worth it if you can afford it. I give the QLOCKTWO TOUCH 5 Stars. Go get one HERE.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)
I together with my guys appeared to be taking note of the excellent solutions from your web site then all of a sudden developed a horrible suspicion I had not thanked the blog owner for those tips. Most of the guys ended up so happy to see all of them and now have definitely been enjoying these things. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
